My responsibilities at current work place is mainly preparation, processing, screening, approval, monitoring and evaluation of on-going development and technical assistance projects related to science and technology, strengthening of different research laboratory, environmental protection and other related issues of Ministry of Science and Technology. I am also responsible for identifying the appropriate investment areas in the science and technology sector including, coordinating the potential and new technology-based research activities e.g. marine resources, chemical metrology, biology, electronics and industry related infrastructure and human resources development. Assist the Secretary for policy making activities on science and technology and coordinate relevant issues with different ministries. I perform an important role in monitoring physical and financial progress of the development projects and in reporting to the different agencies of the government like the Ministry of Finance, Planning Commission, Economic Relations Division and Parliamentary Committee etc. and prepare list of the projects that would serve financial support from the donors and report on donor wise allocation and utilization to the Planning Commission, Economic Relations Division, etc. I also responsible for reporting on sector, sub-sector wise allocation, fund release and expenditure at the monthly Annual Development Program (ADP) review meeting of the ministry.

Work experience
I am working for the development project for rural people. Now, I have been assigned as an Infrastructure office at National Community Driven Development Project (NCDDP) as well as the Project Coordinator at Emergency Support for Chin State Livelihood Restoration Project (ESCSLRP) and Eastern Shan State Rural Development and Inclusion Project (ESSRDiP). NCDD project focuses on the rural infrastructure development and community empowerment financed by World Bank by mean of grant and loan. ESCSLRP project is related to the restoration of damaged rural access and infrastructure, and capacity building for disaster risk management that was affected by 2015 Komen-Cyclone and granted by Japan Funds for Poverty Reduction (JFPR) through Asian Development Project (ADB). ESSRDiP project is for the rural infrastructure as well as livelihood development and promoting formal and non-formal education granted by Luxembourg Government. I have applied the knowledge and experience obtained from Japan in our department's development project activities.

Message for new JDS fellows
"Where there is a will, there is always a way" This has been the motivation that drives my effort to excel in different spheres of my life. My study at the University of Tsukuba, exposed me to various success stories, but this did not come without hard work and dedication. There were moments I felt I could not achieve my goals, but my motivational phrase kept me going. My message to all new JDS students is to make the very best of the opportunity availed them. They should study hard, challenge their perspectives, explore the beauty of Japan, learn the Japanese ways, make new friends and impact each other with their experiences and knowledge. On return to their various countries, they should serve as ambassadors of Japan and a change-pin for their country's development.

I am attached to the Policy Planning and Monitoring Division of the Ministry of Mahaweli Development and Environment in Sri Lanka. Currently I am engaged in work related to update of the national environmental policies and strategies in Sri Lanka. Accordingly, I am working on activities related to update of the National Environment Policy, Energy Policy and National Climate Change Policy in the country. Since I have done a policy analysis under my Master thesis of Environmental Science at University of Tsukuba, my current work is directly related to what I learnt in Japan. In addition, I am coordinating the activities related to projects, programs, action plans and progress of four line agencies coming under the Ministry namely, Central Environmental Authority, Marine Environment Protection Authority, Geological Survey & Mines Bureau and State Timber Corporation.
Academic achievement
I presented my research paper on "An Analysis of Climate Change Secretariat (CCS) Initiatives to Achieve the National Climate Change Policy (NCCP) in Sri Lanka” at the Tenth International Conference on Climate Change: Impacts & Responses held at the University of California at Berkeley, California, United States of America on 20th-21st April 2018. The paper was based on my Master thesis and I published the research paper in the peer reviewed International Journal of Climate Change: Impacts & Responses, Volume 10, Issue 03.
